AWS will add Mistral open source AI models to Amazon Bedrock

Amazon Web Services (AWS) continues to assert its dominance in the cloud server industry by introducing Mistral AI’s cutting-edge open source LLMs to Amazon Bedrock, its platform for generative AI services and application development. AWS’s Principal Developer Advocate, Donnie Prakoso, revealed in a blog post that Mistral 7B and Mixtral 8x7B models from the French startup Mistral will soon be integrated into Amazon Bedrock, enhancing the platform’s AI capabilities.

Mistral 7B offers exceptional efficiency with low memory usage and high throughput, supporting various applications like text summarization, classification, completion, and code completion. On the other hand, Mixtral 8x7B boasts even more power, incorporating a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) model to perform tasks like text summarization, question answering, text classification, and code generation in multiple languages.

Previously considered one of the top open-source LLMs globally, Mixtral 8x7B faced competition from Smaug-72B, which surpassed it in performance recently. AWS’s decision to adopt Mistral AI’s models into Amazon Bedrock is guided by compelling factors such as cost-performance balance, fast inference speed, transparency, customizability, and accessibility – making the models appealing to a wide range of developers and organizations seeking cost-effective generative AI solutions with high scalability.
